How to charter a private jet on demand
Chartering a private jet on demand means booking a whole aircraft for a single trip, with no subscription or term commitment. The process comes down to four details: a departure point, a destination, a date and a passenger count. From there, the platform identifies available aircraft from certified operators and returns an all-in quote within sixty minutes.
Once the aircraft is chosen, everything is handled: airport slots, crew, flight plan, onboard catering. On the day, you arrive at the business airport — often minutes from the city centre — about fifteen minutes before take-off. No check-in, no endless screening: the aircraft waits for you.
It is the most flexible way into private aviation, and the one that suits the vast majority of travellers: no need to own an aircraft or buy a block of hours to fly when you need to.
Which aircraft to charter for your route
The right aircraft depends on distance and passenger count. For a regional link — Paris–Geneva, Nice–Saint-Tropez — a turboprop or light jet is enough and costs the least. For a European crossing with a few passengers, the midsize or super-midsize jet offers the best balance of cabin comfort and range.

One-off charter or a regular solution?
On-demand charter is ideal for occasional flights: you pay only for what you use, with no fixed costs. If you fly more often — several trips a month — other formulas become attractive. A jet card locks in an hourly rate and guarantees availability; fractional ownership only makes sense beyond several hundred hours a year.

Do you need to own an aircraft to charter a private jet?
No, and that is the whole point of on-demand charter. You book an aircraft for a specific trip, much as you would book a chauffeured car, without owning anything or committing. No capital is tied up, no subscription is required: you pay for the flight, and only the flight. That is the fundamental difference from ownership or fractional ownership, which involve buying all or part of an aircraft. The vast majority of private travellers never buy an aircraft: they charter trip by trip, which remains by far the most rational option below several hundred flight hours a year.
How long does it take to arrange a charter?
A flight can be set up in four to six hours when an aircraft and crew are available nearby. In practice, most charters are booked between twenty-four hours and a few days ahead, which leaves time to compare aircraft and secure the best rate. For high-demand periods — ski season, the Cannes Film Festival, the Monaco Grand Prix — it is better to plan one to two weeks ahead, as aircraft and airport slots grow scarce. Requesting a quote commits you to nothing and receives a reply within sixty minutes.
Can you charter a private jet one-way?
Yes. On-demand charter covers one-way trips just as well as round trips. A one-way is perfectly common — for instance to reach a destination where you will stay, or for a business trip with no immediate return. The price then depends on the aircraft’s repositioning route: if it must fly back empty or reach another mission, that is reflected in the rate. This is also why empty legs exist: they are precisely these repositioning one-ways that operators want to fill, and offer at a reduced price.
Are catering and luggage included?
Light catering — drinks, snacks, cold platters — is generally included in the charter. For specific catering or an elaborate menu, simply state it at booking: it is an option, itemised separately. As for luggage, private aviation is far more flexible than scheduled airlines: the hold is sized to the aircraft, and bulky equipment (ski gear, golf, instruments) travels at no extra cost in most cases. Flag any special luggage at booking so the aircraft is chosen accordingly.
How much does it cost to rent a private jet?
The price to rent a private jet is calculated per flight, for the whole aircraft, and depends on distance, aircraft category and positioning. As a guide, a light jet rents from €3,500 an hour, a midsize around €5,800, a heavy jet from €9,400 and a long-range beyond. Can you rent a private jet one-way?
Yes. On-demand charter works one-way as well as return; you only pay for the trip booked. On a one-way, the operator may include a repositioning cost if the aircraft has to fly back empty to base — which is exactly why empty legs, those discounted repositioning flights, are worth watching.
